Austerity for All Seasons

Good afternoon, AltAusterity readers! Today we bring you another paper from our Berlin conference in February by Brendan K. O'Rourke, John Hogan, and Joseph K. FitzGerald titled, "Austerity for All Seasons: Communicating on the Economy in Ireland". These authors ask us to consider Ireland's "addiction" to austerity and its long history, urging us to look ahead into the post-crisis context and beyond. They ask how Ireland's recent economic experiences reinforced its neoliberal tendencies and further, they start a conversation on alternatives to austerity.

Their paper is divided into sections that first cover the macroeconomic context in Ireland, then a section on how the power of the economics profession has grown in Ireland in the past decade, followed by a section on Corporation Taxation, and concluding by looking to what future work there is to be done.
