Introducing CRESS Fellow - Marcel Goguen
Political Science Ph.D. Candidate, Marcel Goguen, explains that a recent increase in large data projects has caused an increase in 'datafication', which is the process of transforming activities into data. Goguen's research examines how “big data functions in practice and how it, and the 'datafication' it entails, is in the process of changing how human beings interact, form groups, and organize themselves.”

Supervised by Dr. Tony Porter, Marcel says that his research is of use in terms of “considering the impact of big data on agency because it foregrounds the degree to which changes in the instruments used to gain information about our environment alters the potential for actions that it offers us.”
