Upcoming Hours Changes:
Please note the upcoming hours changes for Mills library and the RDC:
• Friday, April 3rd - CLOSED for Good Friday.
• Monday, April 6th - CLOSED for Easter Monday .
• Thursday, April 30th - early closure and shortened extended hours (7:45pm).

NEW Call for Proposals for the CRDCN 2015 National Conference - in Toronto on November 5 & 6, 2015.
The CRDCN 2015 National Conference will be hosted by the Toronto RDC on November 5th and 6th, 2015 at the Marriott Bloor Yorkville Hotel. The theme is Research and Public Policy: Health, Economic and Social Perspectives. This is an opportunity to showcase work being done with RDC data and explore emerging themes and methods, with an emphasis on methodological challenges and policy implications.

New data sets at the RDC:
In the upcoming weeks we will be receiving new data sets and surveys at the McMaster Research Data Centre. Please see the information below. Researchers interested in accessing these data sets are encouraged to submit proposals!


General Social Survey - Giving, Volunteering, and Participating (GSS GVP) 
The General Social Survey (GSS) gathers data on social trends in Canada, to monitor changes in well-being and living conditions and provide information on specific policy issues. Each GSS Survey contains a core topic -this data release focuses on Giving, Volunteering, and Participating (GVP). The objectives were to collect national data about volunteering, charitable giving and civic participation; and also to inform policy and programming decisions related to volunteer and charitable sectors. The target population was Canadians over age 15 living in the 10 provinces. Respondents were interviewed by phone. Some questions include asking about one's history of volunteering, reasons for volunteering, skills gained from volunteering, financial giving to charitable organizations, and civic engagement. This survey may interest those researchers examining labour, society and community, unpaid work, and volunteering. The McMaster RDC is now accepting proposals for research involving this data set.
