Upcoming Hours

Please note the upcoming changes to the usual centre operating hours this month:

• CLOSED on Friday March 30th for Good Friday.
• CLOSED on Monday April 2nd for Easter Monday.

New data sets at the RDC

In the upcoming weeks we will be receiving new data sets and surveys at the McMaster Research Data Centre. Please see the information below. Researchers interested in accessing these data sets are encouraged to submit proposals!

Intergenerational Income Database (IID) 

The Intergenerational Income Database (IID) is a database that links children and their parents using administrative tax data, allowing researchers and analysts to study intergenerational phenomena such as transmission of earnings from parents to children, income mobility, etc.

Since its introduction in the mid-1990s, the IID has been the main source of analytical research on intergenerational income mobility in Canada. The database has been updated several times, most recently in 2016 when three new cohorts (1991, 1996 and 2001) were added to the IID sample. New cohorts are planned to be added in the future to maintain the five-year interval between the cohorts. The IID has detailed information about various income sources, including earnings, self-employment income, dividends and investment income as well as government transfers. Information about federal and provincial taxes paid by individuals is also available. A particular strength of the IID is that it allows for identifying children’s families and therefore analyzing income mobility at the family level.

Research in Focus Series 2018

A series of lunchtime conversations for students, faculty members & staff focused on community-based research, knowledge mobilization, and research data & its management, organized by the Centre for Research in Empirical Social Sciences. Bring your lunch & CRESS will provide drinks & dessert. 
All lunchtime talks will meet in L.R. Wilson Hall 5001 on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays (see below). All students, faculty members, and staff are welcome. The Centre for Research in Empirical Social Sciences (cress.mcmaster.ca) will provide drinks and desserts.
